Music composition is my third career. But I’m still doing what I do best: writing to pictures.
For most of my adulthood, I was a clean-shaven, suit-and-tie-wearing TV news reporter. I worked with gifted photographers, matching words to images under intense deadline pressure. I carried that skillset into a stint at Portland City Hall, working as a political advisor and spokesman.
For fun, I wrote songs and gigged around Portland with a band. As music composing had begun to morph from a hobby into a profession, I took the plunge and went full-time. Today I match pictures with “rhythm and melody” instead of “news and soundbites.” I now communicate emotion, not just information.
I also dabble in: audio/video production, copywriting, voice over, speech-writing, political consultation and public messaging. I own a production studio and work with collaborators under the name Highpockets Media, LLC.
